From Idea to Action

Starting a new business is exciting, but it’s also surprisingly easy to get stuck in the planning stage.

You have the ideas. You have the branding. You have the website domain. You have the business cards sitting there ready to go. And then you reach the point where you realise:

Right… now I actually have to launch it.

That’s pretty much where I am with All Day Perks.

From Tip Jar 86 to All Day Perks

The business originally started life under a different name, but I recently made the decision to rebrand it as All Day Perks.

The idea itself hasn't changed.

All Day Perks is being built around one simple idea: hospitality workers deserve something back.

Hospitality is an industry where people work long hours, work weekends, work evenings and spend their days looking after other people. All Day Perks is designed to create a membership community that gives those people access to discounts, perks, events and experiences.

The name feels much more aligned with what I want the business to become.

Getting the foundations in place

Over the last few weeks, the business has started to move from an idea into something tangible.

I've got the branding in place.

I've had business cards and flyers produced.

I've started building the website at alldayperks.com.

I've created the social media presence.

And I've started developing the content that will introduce the idea to people.

None of those things, individually, means you've got a business.

But together, they mean the idea is starting to become real.

The biggest challenge: actually getting started

One thing I've realised is that there is always another thing you could work on.

The website could be better.

The logo could be tweaked.

The social media could have more content.

The marketing could be changed.

You could spend weeks trying to make everything perfect before anyone ever sees it.

But that's not the plan.

At some point, you have to put the idea in front of real people and see what happens.

That's the stage I'm at now.

What happens next?

The next 90 days are going to be about action rather than planning.

The first big job is getting businesses on board.

Restaurants, bars, cafés, barbers, gyms, shops and other businesses that want to offer something to hospitality workers.

The goal is to build a network of businesses where an All Day Perks member can actually use their membership.

Then comes the other side of the equation: the members themselves.

I want to start speaking directly to people working in hospitality and find out what they actually want from a membership like this.

Because ultimately, that's what will make All Day Perks work.

It can't just be a collection of discounts.

I want it to become a community for hospitality workers.

More than discounts

This is probably the part I'm most excited about.

The discounts are the starting point, but I don't want them to be the whole business.

I'd like All Day Perks to eventually be about:

Discounts.Events.Experiences.Community.Supporting hospitality workers.

Imagine finishing a long shift and being able to meet up with other people in the industry at an All Day Perks event.

Or getting your haircut using your membership.

Or going to the gym.

Or heading out for food and drinks with friends who are also members.

That's the bigger picture.

So, where am I now?

Honestly?

Still at the beginning.

But it's a very different place to where I was a few weeks ago.

It's no longer just an idea written down somewhere.

There's a name.

There's a brand.

There's a website.

There's marketing material.

There's a social presence.

And, most importantly, there's now a plan to get it in front of real people.

The next stage is probably the most uncomfortable one:

going out and asking businesses to get involved.

But that's also where the real learning begins.

I'll be sharing the progress as I go — including what works, what doesn't, how many businesses I manage to bring on board, how many members join and whether the idea I've had in my head actually works in the real world.

Because this is where All Day Perks really begins.

Made for hospitality. Made for you.
